MXR Phase 90

MXR Phase 90 original 70s model serial number 118271

Some time in the mid 70s I went to a Perth music store that I used to frequent and they had these new guitar pedals, MXR. There was a Phase 45, Phase 90 and a Phase 100, I liked the Phase 90. I recognised the sound from hearing songs on the Top 40 radio of the time.

I didn’t have enough money to buy it for cash so the shop offered me a HP (hire purchase) agreement, which my Dad went guarantor for – it cost $99.

Sometime in the early 80s a tech friend of mine added an led light so you could tell when it was on or off, now a commonplace feature.

I still have this pedal along with the original orange coloured box.

It doesn’t get much use these days but it’s still a great sounding pedal to have.

  1. Yeah, great, I had one myself – the battery went flat so I gave it away – oops.
Spent years also trying to find an amp! well, the amp! 40 years later it turns up in my home town on gumtree. Ceriatone ots lunchbox – built like a tank – sounds like the best ever!

    Thanks Martin love your site.
